Year 1926

Recorded date of birth of Cadeting at St. Peter’s College stands as December 10 1926, where a junior cadet platoon was recognized and attached to ‘G’ company of the Ceylon Cadet Battalion as No 28 platoon.

Year 1929

College saw a senior platoon being recognized and attached to the Battalion. Lieutenant L. E. Bertus became the OC Contingent and was assisted by Lieutenant B. C. Anghie as Junior Officer.

Year 1932

The efficient training of Junior Platoon by Lieutenant B. C. Angie, himself as an efficient Sergeant of a prize-winning Platoon of St. Joseph’s College, Colombo. St’ Peter’s annexed the De Soysa Challenge Cup for Squad Drill.

Year 1933

It is recorded in October the passing away of Lieutenant L. E. Bertus which was followed by Lieutenant B. C. Angie assuming command of the College Cadet contingent.

Year 1934

Second Lieutenant A.V.A. Perera succeeded Lieutenant B. C. Angie as Junior Officer. It is recorded that Sergeants De Fonseka L. C., Pereira D. and Foenander F. E. was amongst the senior ranks of College Contingent.

Year 1935

The College Cadets attended full Battalion Assessment camp at Diyatalawa, whilst the Junior Platoon attended camps at Gampaha and Boossa training centers where they have fared well.

Year 1936

On the departure of Lieutenant Anghie to Royal College, Colombo, Lieutenant A. V. A. Perera became the Officer Commanding of Contingent with Mr. Justin A. Perera taking charge of the Junior Platoon.

Year 1937

It is a noteworthy mention that though Lieutenant Anghie left St. Peter’s, that he occasionally visited to instruct College Cadet contingent. The result was evident when the Junior Cadets under Second Lieutenant

Year 1939

The senior platoon attended assessment camp at Diyatalawa under Lieutenant A. V. A. Perera. At a camp that was held at Gampaha in February, the Junior Cadets under Lieutenant I. P. E. Dias secured first place in Squad Drill.

Year 1940

The senior Cadets under Lieutenant A. V. A. Perera carried away the Company Challenge Trophy presented by Mr. N. S. O. Mendis.

Year 1941

The college Miniature Rifle Range was declared opened by Major P. D. Pelpola, the Adjutant.

Year 1943

The seniors faired well at the annual Camp at Diyatalawa and saw going on to becoming members of the Air Training Corps.

Year 1945

The Senior Cadets of St. Peter’s College under Lieutenant A.V. A. Perera annexed the coveted ‘Herman Loos’ cup for all-round efficiency. Soon after Lt. A. V. A. Perera left St Peters College and

Year 1946

St. Peter’s Senior Cadets, under Lt. J. P. E.  Dias, attended the senior Cadet Camp at Diyatalawa and were placed ninth out of thirty platoons.

Owing to World War 2 - no CCC camps were held but training continued.

Year 1948

This year proved an ‘Annus Mirabilis’ in the annals of Cadeting at St. Peter’s. The Junior Cadets under Lt. G. J. Stephen, won the De Soysa Challenge Trophy for Squad Drill. In August at the annual Senior Cadet Camp at Diyatalawa,

Year 1949

St. Peter’s Senior Cadets continued to do well, but were unlucky, in the midst of competitions, to be segregated owing to one case of chicken pox in the platoon.

Year 1950
Lieutenant. J. P. E. Dias was promoted to rank of Captain in charge of ‘A’ company and Lieutenant G. J. Stephen assumed duties as OC. Contingent, and 2/Lt. H. E. S. W. Jayasekera took charge of the junior platoon.

Year 1951 to 1954

Though records are not available, St. Peter’s maintained a high degree of efficiency as before, working hard to achieve this end. Mr. Austin L. Fernando was appointed as the Junior Officer.

Year 1955
Mainly through the efforts of Lt. H. Jayasekera and the able assistance of Mr. Austin L. Fernando, the Junior Cadets won the Cup for Squad Drill and Sports, and tied for the first place in All Round Efficiency

Year 1956

St. Peter’s seniors under Lt. Jayasekera and the juniors under Lt. Austin L. Fernando continued to maintain a high level of efficiency.

Year 1957

Lt. Jayasekera and Lt. Austin L. Fernando was the Cadet Officers at College. Lt. Jayasekera was seen functioning as Battalion Quarter Master at the same time, however was carrying out duties with much efficiency at both ends.

Year 1958
Major. J. P. E. Dias was appointed as the Commanding Officer of First Battalion from January. In February, at Annual Junior Cadet Camp held at Diyatalawa, the Junior Cadets under Lt. Austin L. Fernando,

Year 1960

The senior and junior platoons were seen disbanded on the orders of the Government at that time. This included several other schools that who were compelled to give up cadetting.

Year 1981

Records indicate this year as the second birth of cadeting at St. Peter’s College, Colombo 04.

Year 1982 to 1984

By May of 1982 Lieutenant Austin L. Fernando took charge of re-building the college platoon and soon was to be seen the rebirth of glorious tenure in college’s cadeting history.

Year 1985

Air Vice Marshal (Rtd.) Camillus B. Labrooy WWV, RSP, USP, ndc (Ban) hdmc (India) Master of Management Studies (Osmania University) spearheaded the platoon as college’s Sergeant.

Year 1987

Sgt. Perera Sudesh commanded his platoon to battalion assessment camp at Army Training Center,  Boossa.

Year 1988

Sgt. Fernando M. S. led the platoon to battalion assessment camp held at Elpitiya. He later went on to be promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant in same year through to 1989. Sgt. Fernando is a college coloursman.

Year 1989

Sgt. Hettiarachchi A. S. led college platoon to battalion assessment camp at Elpitiya. Platoon Sergent himself enlists with SL Army in 1993, Serves 22 years with Ceylon General Service Corps (CGSC) before retiring.

Sgt. Rohitha Jayathilaka taking charge of boys participated in assessment camp at SLA Gemunu Watch camp, Diyatalawa. On invitation of Mahanama College, Colombo 03, college platoon took part in a Guard of Honour

Sgt. Fernando V. J. H. spearheaded the platoon as the sergeant whilst making a milestone in college cadeting with a Guard of Honour being presented at college’s annual prize giving ceremony.

Sgt. T. G. A. N. Costa led the platoon to NCC training center Rantembe. Sgt. Costa himself & ranks represented college in battalion Karate camp held in Kotahena.

Sgt. Dias W. M. I. I. led the college platoon to NCC training center Rantembe. Sergeant himself was on his fourth battalion assessment camp. Adding glory and glamour to college, the same year

Sgt. Padidilan V. I. took charge of college Army Cadet platoon and participated in battalion assessment camp at Rantembe. With three camps under him, Sgt. Padidilan bears college colours.

Sgt. D. L. Dimithra N. Gunasekara spearheaded the college platoon. As a school boy Sergeant Gunasekara was seen promoted to the Rank of Company Sergeant Major (CSM) in the year 2008.
