Sgt. Rohitha Jayathilaka

Sgt. Rohitha Jayathilaka taking charge of boys participated in assessment camp at SLA Gemunu Watch camp, Diyatalawa. On invitation of Mahanama College, Colombo 03, college platoon took part in a Guard of Honour where the Salute was taken by then Defence Minister late Hon. Lalith Athulathmudali MP Esq. Further the year saw college Cadets taking part in a martial arts display event at national Independence Day celebrations. National Cadet Corps was blessed with it’s own training centre at Rantembe which was declared open by Secretary of Defence General Cyril Ranatunga & Major General E. G. Thevanayagam as Director of corps. One of the young Corporal’s from this platoon goes on to join SL Army in 1993. Col. E. A. D. K. Sooriyakumara USP CR (in service as of this publication) enlists himself with 39th the intake SLMA Diyatalawa, completes his bag of training, passes-out as a young officer with the elite Commando Regiment of Sri Lanka Army. The officer subsequently was seen in combat, where he suffered serious injuries and to recover in joining back active service. St. Peter’s delivered a Quarter Master to battalion with Regiment Quarter Master (RQ). Attanayake J. A. N. K. De Z. G. Quarter Master Attanayake was a college cadet from 1987 to 1990 & had the privilege of representing college at battalion and national level that included sports, band & girls camps in his long tenure.
